Data Migration and Consolidation
- Do you have core business data generated and stored in file archives or legacy systems?
- Do your business applications, data warehouses and legacy systems need to be integrated?
- Do you have challenges around data extraction and unification from heterogeneous systems?
- Do you need to extract and exchange data with business partners?
The Challenge
Organizations merge, restructure and grow and in doing so acquire new and disparate IT systems. To reduce support and maintenance costs, organizations need to migrate, merge and consolidate their customer, supplier and other business data cross a variety of systems; including Customer Relationship Management, Data Warehouses, and Web applications.
Core data may continue to remain on legacy systems which therefore need to be integrated into an efficiently functioning environment. This creates the need to Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) data across multiple databases, negotiating various databases, data formats and migration interfaces. The data also needs to be assessed for quality and consistency as it has been created over a number of years resulting in issues such as missing or non-standard data values.
New channel and business partners result in data being generated in heterogeneous formats across distributed systems. Data exchanged between business partners often needs to be formatted into industry standard formats like XML and EDI, or industry specific data exchange standards such as SWIFT in finance or HL7 in health care. Some systems require data to be moved through specific migration interfaces, rather than entering data directly into their databases. For example, SAP uses IDOCS, Oracle uses interface tables.
The Solution
Organizations must use ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) and DQ (Data Quality) tools for data migration / integration solutions. These tools provide support for multiple data formats to help build quick and cost effective solutions. These systems must be able to generate the data outputs in standard formats like XML / EDI to exchange data with external partners. The data manipulation and analysis should also enable the monitoring and reporting of business processes, and help provide decision support to improve efficiency, productivity and increasing revenue, coupled with a decrease in on-going cost.
How we can help you
Brandon Cross has extensive experience of data migration projects. Our proprietary toolset, with industry standard ETL features, can be used to quickly develop the required data migration / integration solution. Our tools allow us to design data transfer jobs quickly, often without any coding, thus significantly reducing project costs.
Brandon Cross also have tools for data quality assessment at the appropriate stages in a migration / integration cycle, thus eliminating the complications caused by poor data quality which commonly plague new product introductions, or data migration projects.
